Previously based in Boston, violist Lisa Suslowicz has established herself as a highly sought-after performer and a teacher of remarkable range and versatility. She performed regularly with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and was principal violist with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and the Boston Philharmonic.

With the Boston Symphony, she toured three continents, appeared in all the great concert halls of Europe, Japan, China, and the US. Notable conductors that Lisa has worked with include Andris Nelsons, Bernard Haitink, Seiji Ozawa, and John Williams. She performed with the BSO in their Grammy award-winning recordings of the Shostakovich Symphonies.

Lisa was on faculty at the New England Conservatory (NEC) since 1992-maintained a full private studio at NEC’s Preparatory Division, leading many of her students to attend prestigious music schools such as Curtis Institute of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, NEC & Juilliard School, as well as to acquire positions in major orchestras across the US, Europe, and Asia. She also coached chamber music and orchestral sectionals at Boston University, Harvard University, and NEC. Lisa has taught at Stony Brook Music Festival, Southeastern Music Centre,, and the Sarasota Youth Program, and continues to teach at Easton Music Festival and String-In-Summer Music Program at Monmouth College.

Her teachers include James Buswell, concert violinist and Steve Ansell, current principal viola of the BSO. Lisa also worked closely with Robert Vernon, Joseph Silverstein, Heidi Castleman, and Kim Kashkashian, among many other notable music figures. She has participated in the Stony Brook Music Festival, LA Philharmonic Institute, Sarasota Music Festival, Bach Aria Festival, Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, and Grand Canyon Chamber Music Festival.

As a soloist, Lisa has appeared with ensembles including the Boston Philharmonic, New England Conservatory Orchestras, and Harvard University Orchestras; and in recital at Jordan Hall, New England Conservatory.

Chamber music is at the core of Lisa’s musical philosophy. She is a founding member of both the New Artists’ String Quartet and the Griffon String Quartet—a Grand Prize Winner of the Fischoff National Competition. Currently, Lisa is a member of the Simon String Quartet, which gives performances across the east coast, primarily in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Lisa also regularly performs in the Boston Chamber Music Series with Boston Symphony members, the Easton Chamber Festival, and she was a frequent guest artist with Terezin annual benefit concerts at Symphony Hall, Boston, appearing with members of the Boston Symphony, the Hawthorne String Quartet and notable artists such as Yo-Yo Ma. Very recently, Lisa has returned to her roots to live, perform and teach in Central Florida.
